Integrate meanings before cables or APIs
Integration makes data useful in existing work, not merely deliverable. Agree on identities, units, types, timestamps and quality. Fields with matching names but different meanings can create technically successful yet incorrect business results.
Prepare system names, versions, protocol documentation and authorized owners without sending passwords in initial inquiries. Shared standards still require actual namespace, register-map or schema checks.
Begin read-only with explicit network boundaries. Commands are a separate authorized scope requiring impact analysis; compatibility with a control protocol does not establish safe write-back.

Test duplicates, ordering and receiver downtime
Trace zero, negative, decimal and unreadable examples to actual screens. Then test retries and backfills. Event identities and capture times prevent duplicate records and silently reversed current states.
Define receiver-outage behavior, including designed buffering, status reporting and controlled retries. Check storage limits and permissions; do not buffer without bounds or return success when storage fails.
Record versions, settings and ownership. New connectors remain proposals until scope and joint testing are confirmed. Actual support and SLA require agreement with an SI partner, not assumptions from an article.
